This Book Room: By the Light of the Silvery Moon

Amelia Gladstone's hopes are tied up in the Titanic--hopes for a reunion with her cousin and an introduction to an admirer. But when she offers a spare ticket to a down-and-out young man, her fate is about to change.
Quentin Walpole is stunned when a sweet lady secures his passage to America--and even more surprised to find his wealthy father and older brother on board the ship. Suddenly Amelia finds herself caught between the attentions of two men, but who should she entrust her heart to? As the fateful night arrives, will Amelia lose everything to the icy waters?

My thoughts: There is something comforting about a book where you know what's going to happen - the boat's going to sink. I can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but I adore reading about the Titanic. The anticipation of the sinking, the fact that you know the characters in the story are all going to sink or swim - I just love it! I really enjoyed the characters in this book. The plot was only so-so for me - there wasn't a lot of romance, which I appreciated, but I thought the adventure was a bit off and there wasn't enough for a Titanic book! But the characters more than made up for what the plot lacked. I particularly enjoyed Quentin and his brother, Damien. The dynamic between the two, particularly near the end, was heart wrenching and unforgettable. That's what I'll remember about this book always - the lovely and unexpected characters. Even though Amelia is fictional, I admire her. There is a passage on page 217 that was breathtaking for me. Here's one sentence from the passage:
"Character was realizing the need would still be there tomorrow just as fierce but doing something to give comfort for an hour."
That is inspiration at its finest.
